The Pikes Peak Greenway is open from Criterium Bicycles to the confluence of Cottonwood and Monument creeks, near Pikes Peak Indian Motorcycle! In March 2022 another section of the project opened from the overpass at I-25 and Rockrimmon Boulevard to Criterium Bicycles.
The 1.25 mile project replaced deteriorated asphalt with a wider and more durable concrete surface, plus an adjacent gravel running trail. Damaged bridge decking and handrails were also replaced, and several drainage and stormwater improvements were made.

Project Benefits
- Increasing the trail width to 12 feet
- Changing the trail surface from asphalt to a more durable and longer-lasting concrete surface

- Reconstruction of retaining wall
- Burying the utilities underground and lowering the area near the Monument Creek bridge will improve sight lines and accessibility for both pedestrians and bicyclists
Funding
The construction budget of $1 million consists of funds from multiple sources, including a grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation and Pikes Peak Rural Transit Authority.
Public Outreach
Meetings with the cycling community, businesses and the motels in the boundary area were held in Fall 2021. A virtual trail talk for the community was held March 16 to share a project progress report.
A project e-newsletter is being distributed regularly during construction to update the public as the project progresses. Variable messaging signs (VMS) will be positioned at key access areas to the trail, alerting trail users to closures and detours.
